The gospel is not that an innocent Man died for guilty men. The first declaration of the gospel is that God became Man. The One who had been sinned against in divine grace became Man that He might die for His creatures' sin.
On the cross we do not see an innocent Man dying for guilty men; we see the offended God giving Himself, taking our humanity so that the guilt of His creatures might be taken away.
It is love. It is the infinite love that led Him to give Himself for you and me. He who died upon the cross was the Creator of all things. He was the One who had been wronged, sinned against by those He had created, and yet when Man, when you and I could find no way to put our record right or to escape judgment, He came in grace to deliver those who put their trust in Him (Jhn. 1:1-4, 14; 19:30; Rom. 10:8-10).
“Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son (to be) the propitiation for our sins.” 1 Jhn. 4:10.
Christ is pictured in Exodus 25:17-22.
