There is no higher point of revelation than is reached in this epistle which shows the believer as seated with Christ in the heavenlies and him to live in accordance with this high calling.
The epistle is in two main parts of three chapters each. In Eph. chapters 1-3 the Holy Spirit, through the apostle Paul, tells believers what they are in Christ according to His Person and the accomplishment of the work that only He could finish and did finish (Jn. 4:34=19:30). In Eph. chapters 4-6, we, us in Christ, are told what we are to do BECAUSE WE ARE IN HIM.
The contents of this epistle can be summed up in three words—sitting, walking, and standing. By this position (being placed in Him), the believer is seated with Christ in the heavenlies (2:6); our responsibility is to walk worthy of the calling wherewith we have been called (4:1); and this walk is further seen, as we are standing, steadfast and immovable in Christ, in the midst of spiritual warfare in which we are engaged against satan and all his hosts, and in which we are exhorted to stand against the wiles (methodeia: satan’s lying method) of the devil. (6:11-14).
