Leaven, in most cases in the Scriptures, is a type of sin. Leaven is a mass of dough, which, mixed with a larger quantity of dough or paste, produces fermentation in it and renders it light. During the seven days of the Passover, no leaven was permitted to be in the house of the Jews. (Ex.12:15,19).
Leaven, being the type of sin, is anything which makes a general change in the mass. It generally means something which corrupts or depraves that with which it is mixed. (See Eph.4:29). It is that which excites fermentation and taints the whole mass. (Mt. 16:6; Lk. 12:1; 1 Cor. 5:6; Gal. 5:9; Heb. 12:15).
Jesus warned His disciples about the words, the teachings of the legalistic Pharisees, who had an outward show of religiosity, but inside were His most bitter enemies who sought constantly to kill Him. (Mt. 16:6, 11; Mk. 8:15; Lk. 12:1; Jn. 18:40; 19:15). They had evil plans, but God had His own plans of love, grace, and mercy. (See 1 Cor. 2:6-8).
The Holy Spirit, through Paul, warns us, as Christ’s church, body, bride, about the negative and evil effects of leaven and how it effects everyone and everything it touches. (1Cor. 5:6-9; Gal. 5:9; Heb. 12:15). Eph. 4:29, “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth…” (See Ja. 3:1-18).
In Proverbs 20:19; 24:21, the word “meddle” (arab) is a primitive root, meaning “to braid, to intermix.” See what who was Lucifer, and what he became in his heart as he “trafficked, and bartered” his lies and slander against God His Creator, in Ezk. 28:15-18. This word arab means to “exchange,” and means to “enter under another’s authority.”—versus 1 Pet. 5:6; Ja. 4:6-10.
This is precisely what Lucifer did when he went from a brightly shining star, to become satan, God’s opponent and adversary, and the deceiver of the whole worldly system, and the accuser of Christ’s own. (Rev. 12:9-10; 1 Cor. 6:19-20).
Again, see what satan did, as he went about to all the other angels, speaking evil of God Himself. (Ezk. 28:1-19; Rev. 12:4,9-10).
I am thankful for the Word of God this morning, that cuts out any leaven in my life, and as it cuts on one side, the other heals. (Heb. 4:12; Ps. 107:20).
So thankful for the kind and gracious and edifying and loving words of so many of you. By this, and only this will all know, saved and unsaved, that we we have been truly taught by Christ—when we love and forgive one another. (Jn. 13:1-35; 1 Jn. 3:14-18; 4:7-8, 16-21; Eph. 4:15; 32; Col.3:13).
