During Job's time of intense trial, he cried out, “Neither is there any days men (an umpire, a go-between) between us, one that could touch (God and man).” Here, it was very personal with Job. He was saying, "I need God in His Person to touch ME personally."
1 Tim. 2:5, “For there is one God, and one mediator (umpire, go-between) between God and men, The Man Christ Jesus; Who gave Himself…”
Having, therefore, a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast (and cling to Him) to Him who is our confession. Because we do have a High Priest who can be, and was touched, and touched personally by all that has touched us, and will touch us, and even way beyond what we could comprehend, so He is able to have compassion with us in all that we go through. -- on our way to be with Him forever (Heb. 4:14-15).
To sympathize with someone means that I have never been through what they have been through, I've never been touched by what they've been through, and I have no ability to do anything about it. I just feel bad for them.
To empathize with someone means that I have been touched by what they have been touched with, but I have no ability to do a thing about it.
To have compassion on and with someone means that I have been touched by what has touched them, and even beyond what they can, now, even comprehend.
We will have all of eternity to know just how much and even beyond, what He was touched with, what touched us, and even beyond that. He was touched with what touched us and paid for the penalty of what touched us and the penalty of what we touched God with and what we touched others with.
Everything touched Him so that He could have compassion on and with us, in and through everything. Yes, we do have a Great High Priest, He has passed into heaven, and has the ability to touch us with all that He went through for us (Rom. 8:34; Heb. 7:25; 9:24). And we are not these poor feeble people outside of Him--WE ARE MORE THAN CONQUERORS THROUGH HIM THAT LOVES US (Rom. 8:37).
1 Jhn. 5:18, “…and that wicked One TOUCHES HIM NOT, because we are begotten of God being IN CHRIST!”
