Christ the Sin-Sacrifice

Christ has dealt with and finished everything that could have kept us from God (Jhn. 19:30). He came, in perfect grace and love, into the place we were in by sin.

Where did He come from to be in the place we were by sin? Jhn.1:1 declares His pre-existence. There was no beginning to His being. He ‘was’ with God. The word ‘with’ is the Greek word ‘pros’, which is expressive of a personal attitude towards and occupation with the One Whose presence is being experienced. It speaks of a loving, affectionate embrace, in an exchange, that nothing could disturb or distract.

He is the only-begotten in virtue of His deity (Jhn. 1:18). He is the first-begotten in virtue of His humanity (Rom. 8:29). He came out in His humanity, yet, of course, never left the bosom of the Father in His deity. He is, in the highest sense and most exclusive sense, Son of the Father.

We could not go into the bosom of the Father because of the condition of sin we were in. This is why He put on humanity, "God only begotten in the bosom of the Father," coming out in impeccable humanity to exegete Him. He, the full thought of God, coming out as The Word of Life (Jhn. 1:4).

He, the sin-sacrifice for sin, who never knew sin like you and I, became sin (sin-sacrifice), that you and I might be made the righteousness of God in Him (2 Cor. 5:21).

Himself absolutely sinless, He passed through it all for us. He has given us everything, and He has given us the best, Himself so that we can enter into the joy of the embrace of an affectionate, loving exchange between the Father and the Son.

Life here, until we see Him face to face, hangs on the dependence on God the Father and His Son, through the power and energy of God the Holy Spirit (Jhn. 15:1-5; 1 Cor. 13:11-12).
