Christ, our all-sufficiency

When the soul of the individual has been brought to feel the reality of its condition before God—the depth of its ruin, guilt, and misery—it’s utter hopelessness and helplessness, there can be no rest until the Holy Spirit reveals a full and all-sufficient Christ to the heart. The only possible answer to our total ruin is God’s perfect remedy. (Jn. 15:1-5; 2 Cor. 3:5; Phil. 4:13, 19).
This is a true, and pure, and most important truth. The depth and thoroughness of this reality must be learned by each individual. The true secret of peace is, to get to the very end of a guilty, ruined, helpless, worthless self, and there find an all-sufficient Christ as God’s provision for our very deepest need. (Jn. 6:63; Rom. 7:18).
The unsettled state of so many of God’s dear people is the result of not having received into their hearts a full Christ, as God’s own provision for them. (Gen. 22:8 = Rom. 8:31 = Rev. 3:20).
This truly is rest—a rest which can never be disturbed or distracted. (Jn. 14:27; Heb. 4:3-10 = Jn. 13:23; 20:2; 21:7, 20 = 1 Jn. 4:10).
When you and I get to the end of self, and rest in this full love in Christ, there, and there alone, we find a peace which never is interrupted. (Is. 26:3 = Eph. 2:14; Col. 1:20).
The Person and finished work of Christ is the only resting-place for your conscience and mine. It is where God is resting—in the Son of His love—it is where our faith rests and meets God our Father. Zeph. 3:17 = Eph. 1:6 = Heb. 9:14 = 10:2-10, 14).
