Romans 8:1-3
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus. (Remember, the rest of that verse in a translation is NOT in the original Koine Greek!)
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus HAS made me free from the law of sin and death.
3 For what the law could NOT DO in that it was weak through the flesh (the law was used by God to reveal a SIN nature that would only enter into SINS, in Rom.7:12-13). God sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh (Jesus had a human nature, NEVER a sin nature, Lk. 1:35; Jhn. 1:1-2, 14, 18; Heb. 4:15) and for sin ( peri hamartias) condemned sin in the flesh.
God, in giving His Son for a SIN-sacrifice (see Rom. 6:6; 2 Cor. 5:21), in Rom. 8:3 condemned SIN in the flesh, so that for those who are in Christ, there is no condemnation for us.
In the type in Lev. 1:1-17, blood was shed and atonement (reconciliation) made, all there is-is sweet savour. Man’s state is assumed—sin; but the condemnation side is not what is in view, but ACCEPTANCE, Lev. 1:4. In the peri hamartias, “for sin,” SIN is properly in view: in propitiation, SINS are in view.
Our SUBSTITUTION, the fact that we received Christ, and are IN HIM, is the type that is the scapegoat in contrast with the Lord’s lot (See Lev. 16:8).
Sin (sin-nature) is never forgiven: God condemned SIN in the flesh (Rom. 8:3; 2 Cor. 5:21), but Christ took THIS PLACE, was given for SIN, was given for a SIN-SACRIFICE, and knowing no SIN (He had a human nature, NEVER a SIN-nature, the condemnation of sin in the flesh took place, and that in death, and we (those in Christ) are dead with Him for faith. (see Rom. 6:1-14; Gal. 2:20; Col. 3:1-4).
For those IN CHRIST, in God’s view and ours by faith, that old SIN-NATURE HAS CEASED TO EXIST—the condemnation of it GONE. Death in Christ involves both. Guilt is from SINS. We are dead to SIN with Christ, but He HAS (past tense) died for our SINS (Rom. 8:1).
